We offer a comprehensive range of early intervention services designed to meet the diverse needs of young children and their families. Our services include:
Our early intervention programme begins with conducting a comprehensive clinical assessment where we administer evidence-based tools to assess your child’s language, behaviour, social and academic skills. Typically, we use Assessment of Basic Language and Learning Skills (ABLLS-R), The Verbal Behavior Milestones Assessment and Placement Program (VB-MAPP), The assessment of functional living skills (AFLS) or the Vineland assessment for this purpose.
We have a multidisciplinary approach to our clients. We recognize that a holistic strategy is paramount for optimal outcomes. We collaborate with highly qualified professionals from diverse fields, including special education teachers, speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists psychologists, parents and other family members. We prioritize family involvement, considering them integral members of the team, and actively incorporate their insights into the development and implementation of individualized plans.
We are committed to providing evidence based therapeutic interventions for our clients. Evidence based interventions are grounded in rigorous scientific research, ensuring that interventions are not based on conjecture but on proven effectiveness. Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) stands as a prominent example, this therapy utilizing principles of learning and behavior to foster beneficial behaviours and reduce challenging ones and is particularly beneficial for individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and other neuro developmental disorders. Apart from this, speech, occupational therapy, are other prominent evidence based therapies for children with special needs.
We provide parent training and support sessions to empower you with the knowledge and strategies you will need to support your child’s development at home and in the community. We provide guidance on implementing strategies, understanding your child’s needs, and navigating the early intervention system. We are able to provide therapy services in the comfort of your home, which can be particularly beneficial for young children or those who are more comfortable in their home environment.
Delays in reaching developmental milestones: This could involve delays in physical development (e.g., not rolling over by 6 months, not sitting unsupported by 9 months, not walking by 18 months), communication development (e.g., not babbling by 12 months, not using single words by 18 months, limited vocabulary), cognitive development (e.g., difficulty with problem-solving or understanding simple instructions), social-emotional development (e.g., difficulty interacting with others, limited eye contact, challenges with emotional regulation), or adaptive development (e.g., difficulties with self-feeding, dressing, or other self-help skills). You can find developmental milestone checklists online or consult with your child's pediatrician.
The early intervention process begins with intake, followed with a comprehensive assessment. The assessment informs the IEP. The assessment and IEP are developed by our onboard BCBA and CBA’s. Once the IEP is developed, therapeutic services are initiated by our behaviour therapist team. The team is supervised by a clinical supervisor. Monthly progress reports are emailed to families alongwith video recordings of all achieved tasks. The program for each client is developed and monitored by a BCBA or CBA. Families are an integral part at each step in the process.
Contact Us for a Free Initial
Consultation: The first step is to reach out to us. You can call us at 04 59 881 346 or email us at admin@therapiasupport.com.au or fill out the contact form on our website. This initial consultation is free and provides an opportunity for you to discuss your concerns about your child's development with one of our experienced team members. We'll listen carefully to your questions and provide information about our services and how we can help. There's no obligation to proceed after the consultation.
• Discuss Your Concerns with Your Doctor or Child Health Nurse (Recommended): While not always required, we highly recommend discussing your concerns with your child's doctor. They can provide valuable insights into your child's development and may be able to offer initial advice or rule out any underlying medical conditions. They can also provide a referral, which can sometimes expedite the process.
• Initial Assessment and Intake: Once we receive the referral (or after your initial consultation if a referral isn't required), we'll schedule an initial assessment and intake appointment. This appointment will involve gathering information about your child's developmental history, current skills, and any specific concerns you may have. We'll also discuss your family's priorities and goals for early intervention. This assessment helps us to understand your child’s unique needs and determine the most appropriate services.
• Development of an Individualized Plan: Based on the assessment results, our team will develop an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) (depending on your child’s age and the services being accessed) in collaboration with you. This plan will outline specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART) goals for your child's development, as well as the strategies and services that will be used to help them achieve those goals. You are an integral part of this process, and your input is highly valued.
• Service Delivery: Once the IEP is finalized, we will begin providing the agreed-upon early intervention services. This may include therapy sessions (speech therapy, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, psychology, etc.), parent training, home visits, group programs, or other supports. We’ll work with you to schedule sessions at times and locations that are convenient for your family.
• Ongoing Monitoring and Review: We regularly monitor your child's progress and collect data to track the effectiveness of the interventions. We will also conduct regular review meetings with you to discuss your child's progress, make any necessary adjustments to the IFSP/IEP, and ensure that the services are meeting your family's needs. Open communication is essential, and we encourage you to share any questions or concerns you have at any time.
The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is a national scheme in Australia that provides funding and support to eligible people with disability. It aims to create a more equitable and inclusive society by empowering people with disability to have greater choice and control over their supports and services. For families of children with developmental delays or disabilities, the NDIS can be a crucial source of funding for early intervention and other essential supports.
The most significant way the NDIS helps is by providing funding for a wide range of supports and services related to a person's disability. For children needing early intervention, this can include:
• Therapy Services: Funding can cover the costs of allied health professionals like speech pathologists, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, psychologists, and other specialists.
• Assessments and Evaluations: The NDIS can fund assessments to determine a child's needs and inform the development of their support plan.
• Early Intervention Programs: Funding can be used for participation in structured early intervention programs, either individually or in groups.
• Assistive Technology: The NDIS may fund assistive technology, such as communication devices, adaptive equipment, or mobility aids, that can help a child's development.
• Consumables: Funding may be available for certain consumables related to a child's disability, such as specialized feeding equipment or continence products.
• Respite Care: In some cases, the NDIS may fund respite care to provide temporary relief for families and caregivers.
• Support Coordination: The NDIS can fund support coordination to help families navigate the NDIS system, connect with service providers, and manage their plans.
